After NU Bullpups head coach Goldwin Monteverde decided to stay with his team, the brass of the University of the East has decided to move on.
According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, the Red Warriors are looking to bring in former PBA head coach Chris Gavina as the team’s chief mentor.
“We are looking to add a bright, young mind that will help teach our players,” a UE official, who chose to remain anonymous, told Tiebreaker Times.
“Also, the most important thing is that he is someone who has good character.”
Gavina, 39, resigned as the head coach of the Kia Picanto last December 30.
Technically, Gavina is 0-2 as head coach, having only been named as team mentor during the start of the 43rd season of the league.
The product of Stevens Institute of Technology is currently the head coach of the Valenzuela Classics in the MPBL.
During the last four years, the Red Warriors have struggled in the UAAP’s men’s basketball division, compiling a record of 21-35.
