Two-time NCAA MVP Grethcel Soltones affirmed multiple rumors saying that she is being sought out by multiple Philippine Superliga teams.
The Cebuana power hitter told reporters after San Sebastian’s win over the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses in the Shakey’s V-League, that PSL club teams like Foton and Cignal have expressed their interest to get her signature.
However, the final decision lies with Soltones’ longtime head coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Actually, di naman po dumederetso sa akin [ang nagrerecruit] kasi alam naman po nila ang ugale ni coach Roger [Gorayeb] kapag dumederetso sa player.
“Sa lahat na lakad ko, siya talaga ang umaasikaso sa akin,” Soltones revealed, adding that Foton and Cignal are the top candidates.
Gorayeb is currently taking a vacation in the USA and is set to return early September. The reigning SVL Open Conference MVP is open to playing in the league, citing the invaluable experience she could gain from joining the league.
Currently, the Philippine representatives in the 2016 AVC Women’s Club Championship Foton Pilipinas are looking for a replacement for open hitter Rachel Daquis, as the 2015 PSL All-Filipino Conference MVP was forced out of the team due to an injury.
Soltones, who has played for the National Team several times, could be an apt replacement.
“Opo siyempre. Magandang dagdag po iyon sa experience,” Soltones concluded.
