Lady Stags complete comeback against Lady Chiefs

Tournament favorites San Sebastian College-Recolletos Lady Stags swept the last three sets after dropping the first two against the Arellano University Lady Chiefs, 23-25, 26-28, 25-19, 25-18, 15-12, and wrapped up their first win of the season, Monday evening at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The first two sets were disasters for the Lady Stags as they committed of most of their 52 stunning errors in these frames.

Arellano pounced on these opportunities as middle blocker Andrea Marzan and outside hitter Jovielyn Prado carried the team in these tight frames.

Nonetheless, when San Sebastian got their bearings in the following set, there was no turning back.

Setter Vira Guillema had her field day as her spikers did the damage with 59 attacks, 47 of which came from the playmaker’s excellent sets.

The Lady Stags also had eight blocks as opposed to AU’s six, and registered ten service aces.

Team captain and reigning MVP Gretchel Soltones as expected led the winners with 25 points, 24 coming from attacks. Three other Lady Stags scored in double-figures. Joyce Sta. Rita, Denice Lim, and Kat Villegas, had 15 markers each.

On the other hand, Regine Arocha found her mark late in the game to finish with 11 attacks for a total of 12 markers. Interestingly, all Lady Chiefs got to see action in this game.
