Tried and tested
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas will utilize the same 12-man roster that was fielded during its road game against Japan last Friday, in their home game against Chinese-Taipei on Monday, according to SMART Gilas Pilipinas team manager Butch Antonio.
“The team that will play against Chinese-Taipei is the same that played versus Japan,” Antonio said.
The Philippines defeated Japan last Friday, 77-71, with Jayson Castro leading the way with 20 markers.
All 15 pool members Andray Blatche, Jayson Castro, Gabe Norwood, Japeth Aguilar, June Mar Fajardo, Troy Rosario, Calvin Abueva, Raymond Almazan, Allein Maliksi, Kiefer Ravena, Roger Pogoy, Matthew Wright, Mac Belo, Kevin Alas, and Carl Cruz are currently at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City for their second session in preparation for the homestand.
Belo, Cruz, and Almazan were once again the cuts.
The SMART Gilas staff remains positive that this line-up will be effective against Chinese-Taipei, another regional rival of the Philippines.
“We’re upbeat. Players and coaches know we still have things to work on. Players accept the fact that this is a long hard journey,” the amiable team manager added.
“It will not be easy.”
