Twisted Minds emerged as the biggest revelation during the opening week of MPL Philippines Season 16, sweeping M5 World Champions Team Falcons PH before surviving a grueling three-game thriller against AP.Bren to secure the top spot heading into Week 2 of the regular season.
Midlaner Miguel “Sionnn” Alcantara took center stage with an almost flawless debut, averaging four kills and eight assists while giving up just five deaths across five games.
He also showcased impressive versatility, using four different heroes so far and repeating a pick only once during Twisted Minds’ back-to-back victories.
With such a strong showing, talks of Sionnn being the best rookie this season have started to surface — a label he embraces with confidence.
“Hindi po sa nagba-brag ako, pero nakikita ko talaga sarili ko na maging rookie of the season. Di dahil malaki tiwala ko sa sarili ko kundi dahil napakalakas kasi ng mga teammates ko. Baka sila yung mag-angat sa’kin para maging rookie of the season,” said Sionnn in an exclusive interview with Tiebreaker Times.
His confidence stems from the growth in his gameplay compared to his stint in MDL Philippines, where he helped ONIC x Nine Lives capture the Season 5 title.
“Siguro nung MDL sobrang tapang ko kasi noon, parang andami kong maling nagagawa kasi ayun nga, ina-underestimate ko yung kalaban ko nung MDL,” explained Sionnn when asked about the difference from his MDL days.
“Pero ngayon sa MPL, mas nakita ko yung better version ng Sionnn. Kalmado lang ang laro ganun tapos gagawin lang kung anong kailangang gawin tsaka mas maingat ako at mas responsable sa paglalaro,” he added.
If Sionnn maintains this level of play in the midlane, naming him Rookie of the Season could be an easy decision.
