Personnel woes continued to hound F2 Logistics as they missed Kalei Mau against PLDT on Tuesday afternoon.
Mau, who has been the team’s leading scorer in its first three games, was sidelined by an undisclosed injury. She also suffered leg cramps during the second set of their three-set win over United Auctioneers Inc-Army last October 18 and did not return to the game.
With their top spiker out, Shola Alvarez stepped up to the challenge and gave the Cargo Movers a much-needed boost in their straight-set win over the High Speed Hitters, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The former NCAA Most Valuable Player out of Jose Rizal University had six points and seven excellent receptions off the bench in her return after missing the team’s last two games due to protocols.
Alvarez said that she just answered head coach Benson Bocboc’s call to always be ready when her number is called. Moreover, she said that she was glad to see everyone step up and fill in the huge void left by Mau.
“Siyempre malaking part po yung laging sinasabi ni Coach Boc na ready lang lagi. So lagi siya tumatatak sa isip ko na lagi lang ako handa anytime bunutin ako ni coach from bench,” said Alvarez.
“Nakakatuwa na lahat naman nag-step up lahat naman may ginawa para ipanalo yung game,” she added.
Meanwhile, Bocboc said that he was satisfied with how Alvarez played in her first game back. Still, the long-time assistant of Ramil De Jesus bared that he is expecting more from Alvarez in the coming games.
“Well siyempre pagbabalik, pagkagaling sa balik okay na so above average. But I’m expecting more from her of course bago si Shola sa team medyo nakikita pa natin hindi pa mailabas yung kaya niya gawin andon pa rin nag hihintay ako pero lalabas din yan anytime soon.”
