Sherwin Meneses calls for Cerveza, Mendrez to step up as Araneta status uncertain

Generika-Ayala head coach Sherwin Meneses is hopeful that team skipper Angeli Araneta will make a successful return before the 2019 PSL All-Filipino Conference reaches its crucial juncture.

“Tomorrow pa talaga yung critical na malalaman sa injury ni Neta,” Meneses disclosed. “Pero sabi naman ng PT [Physical Therapist] namin, yung [remaining] games namin sa preliminary baka makakalaro pa siya.

“Strained pa lang sabi ng PT, kasi nakakalakad [pa] si Neta. Okay naman daw yung pakiramdam. Hopefully, maganda yung findings tomorrow.”

The Generika-Ayala captain landed badly late in the fifth set against F2 Logistics on Saturday. She hurt her left knee.

Araneta finished with 11 points and 27 excellent digs. She never returned for the remainder of the match.

The Cargo Movers eventually won in a close shave.

Though a swift recovery for their captain is probable, the Lifesavers will have to find someone to fill in the huge shoes that Araneta leaves – especially since they are jockeying for crucial positioning in the standings.

Given this, Meneses calls for Carol Cerveza and Mean Mendrez to take the reins in lieu of the opposite hitter.

“Yung senior naman andyan si Carol, then freshman andyan si Mendrez, so sana mag-step up yung dalawa — as in dalawa, hindi isa.”
