After two decades, an Ildefonso will once again don a National University Bulldogs jersey
6-foot-2 forward Shaun Ildefonso is set to transfer from the Ateneo de Manila University to the National University. The second-generation cager made the announcement on his Twitter account.
“My journey in Ateneo was nothing short of a great ride, but as they say, all good things come to an end,” the 18-year-old said in a statement. “I have to take risks to reach my full potential as an athlete.
“A new opportunity came my way to play for the NU Bulldogs with my Tatay.”
Shaun, a former Ateneo Blue Eaglet, played in just five games during the 79th season of the UAAP, logging in limited minutes under coach Tab Baldwin.
It will not only be a reunion between him and his father Danny Ildefonso; he will also reunite with his former high school mentor Jamike Jarin, who had been his coach during his first three years with the Blue Eaglets.
His father Danny Ildefonso is an assistant coach for Jarin, and attended college at National University. The elder Ildefonso played for the Bulldogs until 1997.
The younger Ildefonso will have to sit out one year before he can suit up for the Bulldogs come UAAP Season 81. The National University will be the hosts for that season.
