Jared Bahay and Reinhard Jumamoy go way back, with the two Cebuano standouts having spoken on multiple occasions about the bond and friendship they share.
Now, another chapter in their basketball journeys has come to a close, as Ateneo de Manila University and National University have completed their two-game elimination-round series in the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament.
Over the past three seasons, Bahay and Jumamoy have faced off in the collegiate ranks, with each matchup bringing its own share of competitive battles and memorable moments.
Following Ateneo’s 69-65 victory over NU on Wednesday, the Blue Eagles completed a season sweep of the Bulldogs, adding another chapter to the growing collegiate rivalry between the two Cebuano standouts.
The two Cebuanos went basket-for-basket at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, with both finishing with 16 points in the hard-fought duel.

“Masaya ‘yung full circle moment namin,” said Jumamoy.
But long before they became opponents in the UAAP, the two were teammates at the University of San Carlos in Cebu, where they played together for two years during their elementary days.
Their paths eventually diverged in high school, with Bahay making a name for himself at Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Jumamoy continuing his development at National University Nazareth School.
Despite taking different routes, both eventually found themselves on the same stage once more — this time, on opposite sides of the court.
“Ever since naman we were teammates before sa 12-under, sabi ko lang, grabe, sobrang lakas niya. I’m very proud of him na kapwa Cebuano, na dito kami ngayon,” said Bahay.
“As a fellow Cebuano, nakikita ko siya na naman sa big stage. Masarap sa pakiramdam ‘yung healthy competition kumbaga,” Jumamoy added.

While Ateneo claimed both meetings this season, their shared history goes beyond the results.
Having known each other since their formative years, Bahay and Jumamoy share a mutual respect that transcends competition — a reminder that even as their basketball journeys continue to unfold separately, the friendship they built in Cebu remains an integral part of their story.
Now, as they continue to make their mark in collegiate basketball, both hope to serve as role models for the next generation of Cebuanos aspiring to follow in their footsteps.
“Sa secondary pa lang, ine-encourage namin ‘yung kapwa Cebuanos namin na dream hard, para maabot din ‘yan,” Bahay added.
