Shaq Delos Santos proud to see Cignal set PVL record for fewest errors

Since its first win in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference up until its fourth straight win, there is no contentment on the side of Cignal.

Already at 4-0 – a win away from sweeping Pool B – the HD Spikers are showing no signs of slowing down.

And it was evident during their stunning straight-sets victory against the defending champions Petro Gazz Angels.

In a rematch of the 2022 Reinforced Finals, Cignal romped the struggling Petro Gazz side, dragging them down to their third straight loss via a 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 triumph on Thursday afternoon.

Making it more impressive for the HD Spikers was its precision during the one-hour, 46-minute match, committing just six errors – a PVL record for the least errors committed by a single team in a game.

“Sobrang proud ako kasi yun talaga yung isa sa goal namin, actually. Every training, kailangan talaga maging quality yung maging performance,” said Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos.

He added, “Hopefully mamaintain yan kasi bihira sa amin, before first set pa lang may six errors na kami service pa lang.

“So ngayon super happy and proud sa buong team kasi grabe yung mindset and focus namin.”

It was sweeter because they did it against the Angels, who denied them of their PVL championship dreams back in 2o22.

That was Cignal’s lone appearance in the Finals, but Petro Gazz was just on another level, taking the title in two games.

“Definitely yes talaga, kasi gusto talaga namin makabawi – not only sa team na ‘to, but dito sa conference na ito,” said Delos Santos.

The veteran tactician believes that this is their time now with MJ Perez ready to lead them to the promised land.

Perez, their 36-year-old Venezuelan reinforcement, has been topnotch for the HD Spikers. She is averaging 23.75 points in four games while also bringing much-needed veteran smarts with the team missing Dawn Catindig and Jovelyn Gonzaga this conference.

“We have a very good import,” said Delos Santos.

“To be honest talaga not only doon sa performance, being leader, senior sa team. Yung mindset namin ngayon na-ilevel up din namin, and hopefully ma-maintain and mas ma-improve pa namin ito.”
