Cignal showcased precise execution in dismantling the struggling Petro Gazz side in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22, during the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Thursday at the Philsports Arena.
The HD Spikers committed only six errors in the one-hour, 38-minute match – the lowest number of errors in league history since turning professional – bringing them close to sweeping Pool B with a perfect 4-0 record.
This victory also secured Cignal’s spot in the top three of Pool B.
“Sobrang thankful ako kay Lord sa guidance na binigay nila sa amin and sa strength. And then syempre sobrang proud sa team namin, especially our import sobrang all out talaga siya kanina,” said Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos.
With the scores locked at 22-all in the third set, Brooke Van Sickle committed a costly service error that gave the HD Spikers a slim 23-22 advantage.
From there, MJ Perez took over, scoring through the block before finishing the game with a down-the-line attack.
“Sobrang happy kasi grabe ‘yung naging effort talaga ng team sa three days namin na preparation. Good thing lumabas talaga ‘yung kung papaano kami nagkaroon ng game plan,” said delos Santos.
Perez led Cignal with 20 points, including 16 attacks, three blocks, and one ace, along with seven excellent receptions and seven excellent digs.
The HD Spikers have posted their best start in a conference since the 2022 Invitationals.
