Seven teams will wage war when the 2016 PBA D-League Foundation Cup begins on June 2, 2016.
The Phoenix Petroleum-Far Eastern University Accelerators will try to make it two titles in a row, but standing in its way will be its Aspirants’ Cup Finals opponent and defending Foundation Cup champions the Cafe France-Centro Escolar University Bakers, as the two emerge as the front-runners for the championship this time out.
Racal Tile Masters, Tanduay Rhum Masters, AMA Online Education Titans, and the ZC-Mindanao Aguilas also returns this season, while Blustar Detergent Dragons brings in some international spice for the second conference.
Blustar, led by coach Ariel Vanguardia, will parade Fil-foreign studs Matthew Wright and Jason Brickman to lead its all-Malaysian core this tournament.
Moreover, for the first time in D-League history, the elimination round will go on a double-round robin tournament format with the top four advancing to the semifinals and the top two owning a twice-to-beat advantage. In case of ties, it will be broken via the PBA quotient system.
Winners of the said series will face off in a best-of-three championship series.
