PBA D-League: Jayvee Dela Cruz leads PSP to snap-skidding win over AMA

Philippine Sports Performance (PSP) decked AMA Online, 108-70, and snap a two-game skid in the 2023 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup Thursday at the Ynares Sport Arena in Pasig City.

The Gymers cut the Titans down to size in the fourth quarter, limiting them to only 10 points to run away with a 38-point win and get back on track at 2-2.

All but one of the 15 players scored for PSP led by Jayvee Dela Cruz with 24 points on six treys. He added two rebounds, three assists, and a steal in only 22 minutes of play.

Jolo Sumagaysay and Dariel James Bayla had 14 and 10 points, respectively for PSP, which stunned Marinerong Pilipino-San Beda in its debut but bowed to Perpetual and reigning champion EcoOil-La Salle in the next two.

“Dalawang sunod na beses na kaming talo kaya pinaghandaan talaga namin itong game para makabawi. Ang dami namang turnovers at offensive rebounds allowed noong first half kaya nag-adjust kami lalo na sa depensa sa second half,” said assistant coach Jonathan Macaranas in lieu of head coach John Paolo Lao.

PSP raced to 31-17 lead after the opening salvo but got dragged into a 49-41 dogfight at the break as AMA uncorked a 9-2 closeout of the second quarter.

The Gymers once again had a tough time shrugging off the winless but hungry Titans in the third quarter before finally breaking the gates wide open in the payoff period behind a massive 34-10 gap.

Earl Ceniza, with 15 points, led the fight but the Titans still dropped their third straight blowout loss.
