Sonny Barrios to grace PBA Press Corps Awards Night

A beloved figure from PBA’s past will grace the 30th edition of the PBA Press Corps Annual Awards Night as the guest of honor and keynote speaker on Sept. 24 at Novotel Manila.

Former Commissioner Renauld “Sonny” Barrios will reconnect with his PBA family during the two-hour formal event, which will honor the top achievers of Season 48.

Barrios, who served for a long time as deputy commissioner under the late Emilio “Jun” Bernardino, became the PBA Commissioner in 2008. Although he left the league in 2010, he continued his contributions to Philippine basketball as the Executive Director of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), a position he held until his retirement earlier this year.

Barrios, along with the PBA Press Corps led by president Vladi Eduarte of the Abante Group of Publishing, will recognize the outstanding performers who made the past season unforgettable.

At the top of the honor roll is the recipient of the Virgilio “Baby” Dalupan Coach of the Year Award, followed by the Danny Floro Executive of the Year Award.

For only the second time in the Awards Night’s 30-year history, a Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented by the men and women covering the PBA beat.

Other prestigious awards include the President’s Award, Defensive Player of the Year, Bogs Adornado Comeback Player of the Year, Scoring Champion, Mr. Quality Minutes, All-Rookie Team, Game of the Season, and the Order of Merit.

In addition, special citations will be made, and a minute of silence will be observed in memory of PBA family members who have passed away, honored by a final buzzer.
