SEA Games: Sanosa, Catindig, Bejosano, Amir complete sweep of women’s soft tennis

The Philippine national soft tennis team captured their second gold of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games with a sweep of the women’s team event, Tuesday at the Soft Tennis Center in the Olympic Complex in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The Philippines dominated Indonesia in the three matches in the final to take a historic first-ever gold in the women’s event, 5-4, 4-2, 5-0, to follow Mañalac and Catindig’s gold in doubles.

The women’s squad is also composed of Christy Sañosa, Princess Catindig, Bien Bejosano, and Fatima Amir.

The men’s side, who was the defending champion from the 2019 Games, finished with the bronze medal after absorbing a sorry defeat in the semifinals against Thailand, 1-2.

Adjuthor Moralde, Dheo Talatayod, George Mendoza, Joseph Arcilla, Mark Anthony Alcoseba, and Sherwin Nuguit made up the men’s team.

The three-time Games champion Mañalac and the rest of the squad took care of all their pool matchups, including two 3-0 sweeps of Thailand and Laos and two 2-1 decisions past Cambodia and Indonesia to book the semifinals ticket.

They then took care of the hosts, 2-1, in the semifinals to set up the maiden team gold.
