SEA Games: Kim Mangrobang retains aquathlon tiara, raises personal tally to six golds

Kim Mangrobang continues to add to her legacy by capturing her second consecutive women’s individual duathlon gold, dominating the 32nd Southeast Asian Games competition on Sunday at Kep Town Beach in Kep City, Cambodia.

This win brings the country’s golden haul to double digits at 10, including the mixed relay team’s first endurance race gold in aquathlon.

Moreover, Mangrobang, 31, adds to her personal tally, increasing her gold count to six.

Mangrobang finished the race in 1:04:23, just a few seconds ahead of Vietnam’s Thi Phuong Trinh Nguyen’s 1:05:12.

Meanwhile, Maharani Azhri Whayuningtyas of Indonesia clinched the bronze with 1:06:14, and Malaysian Siobhan Doyle Mei Li registered a DNF (did not finish).

On Saturday, the quartet of youngsters Matthew Hermosa, Kira Ellis, Iñaki Lorbes, and Erika Nicole Burgos won the gold in the mixed relay team in aquathlon with a time of 1:09:56.

Mangrobang aims to secure her fourth consecutive gold in the women’s individual triathlon later this week.
