The Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team could not overcome regional powerhouse Thailand in their encounter in the 31st Southeast Asian Games, bowing in straight sets, 15-25, 13-25, 14-25, Saturday at the Đại Yên Arena in Quang Ninh, Vietnam.
Cruising in the first set, the Thais imposed their will on the Filipinas, racing to a 16-7 lead coming from their quick attacks and excellent combination plays.
Though the Filipinas put up a fight in the third set — falling behind 15-10 midway, the firepower of the Thais proved to be too much.
Thailand, who are seeking to win its 14th overall gold in the sport, got their first win while dropping the Philippines to 1-1 for third.
The top two teams in the five-nation meet will advance to the final while the third and fourth seeded squads will face off in the bronze medal match.
