The Philippine Azkals Under-23 team suffered their first defeat in the 31st Southeast Asian Games after a 2-3 collapse at the hands of Myanmar, Tuesday night, at the Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho, Vietnam.
The result means that Myanmar rises to the top of Group A with six points while the Philippines slides down to third place with four points.
Myanmar gained an early lead in the contest thanks to Win Naing Tun’s opener two minutes into the contest. The Filipinos, though, fired back when Jovic Bedic scored a header in the 34th minute and converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute.
Come the second half, things went downhill for coach Norman Fegidero’s men. They conceded two quickfire goals, which propelled the opposition to victory.
Lwin Moe Aung leveled the contest anew with a header in the 51st minute. Then it was Soe Moe Kyaw who scored the winning goal in the 54th minute.
The Azkals U23 shall fulfill their last Group A assignment against Indonesia on Friday. Kickoff time is scheduled at 5:00 PM.
