Ayo refuses to comment on Rhenz Abando benching

When University of Santo Tomas faced University of the Philippines on Wednesday evening, Rhenz Abando was in street clothes.

However, the 21-year-old native of Sto. Tomas, La Union was not even near the Growling Tigers’ bench. Instead, he sat in the patron section of the Mall of Asia Arena.

And yes, he has no injuries.

When asked to comment about why they did not field Abando in today’s game, UST head coach Aldin Ayo chose to remain mum.

“Right now, I’m not gonna comment regarding that,” he said after UST’s 84-78 win over UP.

Abando, a transferee from Philippine College of Science and Technology in Pangasinan, is averaging 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game for UST.

It is still unknown when he will make his return to the team.
