SEA Games: Azkals U22 suffer Indonesia drubbing


The Philippine Under-22 Men’s National Football Team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Indonesia to open the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on Saturday at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh on Saturday.

Rob Gier’s men started on the wrong foot as they conceded Ferdinan Marselino’s strike in the 45+1 minute.

Substitutes Irfan Jauhari and Fajar Firdaus then completed the drubbing with goals in the 90th and 90+2 minutes.

Currently, Indonesia tops Group A with 3 points and a goal difference of plus-3, while the Philippines is at the bottom with zero points and a minus-3 goal difference.

The host nation Cambodia and Timor Leste will face each other tonight to cap off the Group A action for the first matchday.

The Azkals U22 hope to bounce back this Tuesday against Cambodia, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Manila time. Indonesia will take on Myanmar this Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Manila time.
