The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has appointed Ryan Gregorio as the new head of the Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 program, replacing Ronnie Magsanoc, who had served as program director since 2019.
Gregorio, the former special assistant to the SBP president, is a three-time PBA champion and three-time PBA Coach of the Year.
With the transition, Gregorio inherits a program at a crossroads.
During the recently concluded 33rd Southeast Asian Games, both Gilas 3×3 squads could not make it to the podium.
Still, the program’s progress prior to the regional meet cannot be overlooked.
The Women’s team achieved a top-four finish at the FIBA Asia Cup in Singapore while playing their final three games with just three players, boosting their global rankings.
They also topped their conference in the U23 Nation’s League Tournament, earning a spot in the FIBA U23 3×3 World Cup in China, where they held their own against teams including the USA and Spain.
The national team also competed in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series, finishing 18th out of 60 teams worldwide.
On the men’s side, Gilas failed to reach the FIBA Asia Cup quarterfinals for the third consecutive year but finished second in their conference in the U23 Nations League.
The team also made multiple appearances in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour this year, highlighted by the SBP-hosted 2025 FIBA 3×3 Manila Challenger, where they reached the quarterfinals against Europe’s top clubs.
Magsanoc had been at the helm of the program since 2019.
With him as head coach of Gilas 3×3 Men during the 2020 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the national team finished in last place.
Under his leadership as program director, the men’s team’s best Asia Cup finish came in 2022, where the team placed fourth.
In the SEA Games, Magsanoc’s squads claimed gold in 2019, finished third in 2021, and took silver in 2023.
