San Beda, San Sebastian set for battle of unbeatens

The two protagonists of last season’s finals are set to square off once again

After three days in the NCAA Season 92 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the sands of the Subic Park Hotel in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, the San Beda College Lady Red Spikers and the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags are set to stake their pristine slates on the line.

Just like their performances during the first two days of the tournament, Jieza and Nieza Viray made quick work of their opponents. In their first match against Cherilyn Sindayen and Czarinna Orros of the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, they notched a 21-19, 21-13 win and immediately followed it up with a 21-9, 21-15 victory against Shola Alvarez and Rosalie Pepito of the Jose Rizal University Lady Heavy Bombers. The Viray twins then capped off their day with a 21-14, 21-6 win over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals.

On the other hand, it was another day in the office for the defending champions. The tandem of Grethcel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa proved to be too much to handle for their opponents. They scored a 21-19, 21-18 win over Marijo Medalla and Bianca Tripoli of the University of Perpetual Help Altas and followed it up with a 21-8, 21-10 drubbing of the EAC Lady Generals. Lastly, they ended the day with a 21-10, 21-7 win over Melanie Torres and Angela Enginco of the College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers.

Tomorrow will be a crucial day for both teams as they are set to face each other. The winning team will earn an outright ticket to the championship round, while the losing team will have to duke it out in the stepladder semis.
