The Alas Pilipinas duo of Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons made their debut in the 20th Asian Games in style, sweeping Bangladesh in straight sets to open their campaign on a winning note.
Rondina and Pons delivered a dominant performance from the opening set before pulling away even further in the second en route to a 21-16, 21-6 victory over Bangladesh’s Most Sabina Khatun and Mst Lucky Khatun on Sunday at Hekinan Ryokuchi Beach Court.
With the win, the reigning Southeast Asian Games gold medalists seized the early lead in Pool E with a 1-0 record.
Rondina and Pons will next face Kazakhstan’s Laura Kabulbekova and Merey Kozhakhmet on Friday.
Meanwhile, the tandem of Khy Progella and Sofiah Pagara will begin their Asiad campaign in Pool G against Maldives’ Fathmath Anal and Aminath Areesha at 10 a.m.
