Roger Pogoy is in awe that he’s now teammates with Terrence Jones in the TNT KaTropa.
The third-year guard, in his words, is overwhelmed to be sharing the court with Jones – not just because of his rich NBA background, but also for a quirky reason: basketball video game NBA 2K.
Pogoy said that he had actually played the 6-foot-9 forward in NBA 2K, especially when Jones was still with the Houston Rockets, who picked him at 18th overall in the 2012 Draft.
“Oo ginagamit ko nga siya sa 2K dati. Sa Houston,” said Pogoy with a grin. “Nakaka-overwhelm.
“Sinabihan ko nga siya na dati ginagamit ko siya sa 2K kaso ‘di siya naglalaro daw ng 2K.”
Pogoy has now practiced a few times with Jones. He’s also seen the latter’s exploits in a game when the KaTropa faced sister team Meralco Bolts in a tuneup match, Thursday afternoon.
Pogoy witnessed Jones pour in 37 points, though the efforts of the former NCAA champion with Kentucky were not enough, as they lost to Gani Lawal and the Orangemen, 83-96.
But Pogoy likes what he has seen so far from their new reinforcement for the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“Si Terrence kakarating lang eh, so parang binabasa pa niya, nangangapa pa siya. Pero okay siya, fit na fit siya sa sistema namin,” said Pogoy, a BPC candidate in the 2019 Philippine Cup.
“Unang-una sa energy pa lang eh, nadadala niya kami. Energy guy siya eh. Yun din kulang namin, big man, so feel ko malaking tulong siya sa’min ngayon,” he added.
“Matalinong player.”
