Making the leap to the G League instead of heading to college, Jalen Green made sure to have a good friend that he could trust to be his teammate.
According to a report by Kentucky Sports Radio, Filipino-American Green personally recruited Kai Sotto to join him in the minor league’s newest squad.
Tuesday evening (Manila time), The Athletic reported that the 7-foot-2 Filipino will indeed head to the G League to join Green.
Citing their sources, the report stated that Green “hand-picked Sotto to join him on the roster” of the squad that will be based in Southern California.
The development does not come as a surprise.
Since meeting for the first time during the 2018 edition of the Chooks-to-Go National Basketball Training Center National Finals, the two have been in close contact with each other.
“We text a lot,” Green said a year ago.
They will be joined by five-star recruits Daishen Nix and Isaiah Todd.
In the G League, Green and Sotto are expected to play at least 15 games. They will also receive coaching from ex-pros and elite coaches.
Before this, Green, who was part of FilAm Sports USA, and Sotto, who headed Ateneo-Quezon City, figured in a duel twice in the NBTC. Green won both showdowns.
