Remy Martin opened the final year of his collegiate career on a strong note, helping Kansas to an 87-74 win over Michigan State in the 2021 Champions Classic, Wednesday morning (Manila time) at Madison Square Garden, New York.
Martin, who spent his first four years in Arizona State, tallied 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line, six rebounds, and two assists.
It was a back-and-forth first half that saw 10 lead changes between the Jayhawks and Spartans.
Come the second half, Kansas was able to break away from Michigan State, leading by as much as 16 points, 76-59, after two free throws from Martin.
Ochai Agbaji had a game-high 29 points on 9-of-17 from the field.
David McCormack added 10 points while Christian Braun grabbed eight rebounds.
Michigan State was led by the 17 points of A.J. Hoggard, who went 8-of-13 from the field. Julius Marble got 13 points and seven rebounds as well.
Kansas will next face Tarleton State on Saturday (Manila time).
