Top-seed Kansas asserted its dominance against the 16th-seeded Texas Southern, securing an 83-56 opening-round victory in the Midwest region of the NCAA Tournament, Friday morning (Manila Time) at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Remy Martin starred as he led the team with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. The Filipino-American guard also grabbed four assists, two steals, and a rebound in 21 minutes of action.
It was all Kansas right from the get-go as Bill Self’s squad was able to establish a huge margin early on.
Martin got things going as he produced nine points and three assists to spark an 18-2 run for his team before closing the first half with a 47-19 lead.
The Jayhawks were simply no match for the Tigers as they stepped on the gas pedal and ran away with the lopsided victory.
Christian Braun tallied 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists while Ochai Agbaji notched 11 points and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, John Walker led Texas Southern with 13 points in 22 minutes.
After the win, Remy Martin and the rest of the Jayhawks will now advance to the second round to face ninth-seeded Creighton at Dickies Arena on Sunday (Manila time).
