SINGAPORE — Sebastian Rasmussen and Christian Rontini struck late to lift the Philippine Azkals to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Afghanistan at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Rasmussen, who replaced Santi Rublico in the 55th minute, scored for the Azkals in the 74th minute to provide the leveler for the home side.
Rontini then completed the comeback for Michael Weiss’ side in the 81st minute with a thumping header.
Rasmussen and Rontini’s goals turned things around for the Azkals after they conceded Omid Popalzay’s 64th-minute volley.
This is the second win for Weiss in his return as the Azkals coach. Up next for the Philippines is an away match against Bahrain next month to kickstart its 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
