Ava Fajardo, Ryan Nair headline Gilas for Women’s U16 Asian Championship


Ava Fajardo and Ryan Nair will seek redemption come the 2023 FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship which takes place from July 10 to 16 in Amman, Jordan.

The duo will lead Gilas Pilipinas in the continental meet with one slot for promotion to Division A at stake.

Fajardo and Nair were part of the team that finished third in the last edition of the tournament last year.

Gilas lost to eventual-champion Samoa in the semifinals.

The rest of Patrick Aquino’s pool are Nevaeh Smith, Sophia Canindo, Isabella De Jesus, Ariel De La O, Scarlett Mercado, Alyssia Palma, De La Salle Zobel’s Naima Navarro, National University Nazareth School’s Christian Lapasaran, and Kimi Sayson.

The Philippines is slotted in Pool A along with Hong Kong (July 10), Maldives (July 11), and Jordan (July 12).

Pool B will have Malaysia, Iran, Singapore, and Guam.

The top two teams in each pool will advance to the knockout semis.
