Philippine Sports Commission OIC Ramon Fernandez is assuring the Team Pilipinas contingent headed to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics that they can begin training soon.
Fernandez has been working with chef de mission Nonong Araneta and the Philippine Olympic Committee to coordinate with both already-qualified and OQT-bound athletes regarding the protocols for the resumption of their training.
“We plan to meet with POC and CDM Nonong Araneta to discuss the resumption of training on the national team, especially the Olympic hopefuls,” said the four-time PBA Most Valuable Player.
Last Friday, the IATF approved the resumption of practices for professional basketball and football clubs.
Boxers Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno, gymnast Caloy Yulo, and pole-vaulter EJ Obiena have all already qualified for the Games.
Meanwhile, Hidilyn Diaz, Gilas Pilipinas 3×3, Pauline Lopez, Margie Didal, Junna Tsukii, Kiyomi Watanabe, among others, are close to earning Olympic berths.
Fernandez is now waiting for the go-signal from the IATF.
“We shall await more information and instructions from the IATF on the joint working group between GAB, DOH and PSC so we can proceed more efficiently and effectively.”
