Formerly of NorthPort, Qualls did provide stats-wise with averages of 26.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 steals in 39.5 minutes but head coach Yeng Guiao lamented the lack of chemistry he had with the locals.
The straightforward mentor offered as much shortly after RoS fell to 0-4 following a 108-116 defeat to reigning champs Ginebra last Sunday.
Now, they’ve officially replaced the 29-year-old with Smith II, who’s bringing the experiences he garnered from playing professionally since 2013.
The Colorado State product had stints in Latvia and France but spent much of his career in various parts of South America. His last stint in the region was with Correcaminos in Mexico’s Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional in 2019.
Smith II also saw action in The Basketball Tournament in the States back in 2021, where he suited up for the Omaha Blue Crew.
