The Philippine Women’s National Football team capped off a banner year with a 9-0 win against Papua New Guinea, Thursday, at the Wanderers Football Park in Sydney.
Quinley Quezada was the star of the show as she was able to put the ball at the back of the net in the 65th, 85th, and 87th minutes.
The Filipinas started the match strongly to earn a two-goal lead. Sara Eggesvik opened the scoring in the 10th minute off a Katrina Guillou assist while the latter scored the second goal of the game at the 23rd minute.
Come the second half, Jessika Cowart took advantage of a defensive miscue to score in the 46th minute while midfielder Tahnai Annis finished coolly at the 53rd minute.
Papua New Guinea’s Isabella Natera then scored an own goal in the 55th minute while Guillou got her brace in the 72nd minute via a penalty kick.
This result caps off an amazing year for coach Alen Stajcic’s wards. Throughout this season, the Filipinas were able to qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup through a semifinal finish in the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
The Filipinas then earned a bronze medal in the 31st Southeast Asian Games and then won the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship on home soil.
