Playing with Fire: Singapore Slingers tap Urbiztondo

One-time PBA All-Star Josh Urbiztondo is set to bring his talents to the Singapore Slingers

Urbiztondo, 34, has been tapped as an ASEAN Heritage Import by the second-placed Singapore Slingers according to league officials, Wednesday afternoon.

The eight-year PBA veteran last played for the Globalport Batang Pier in the PBA, playing in just six games. The San Francisco, California-native played sparingly with the Batang Pier, playing behind Terrence Romeo, Stanley Pringle, and Mike Cortez.

But in his first seven years in the league, Urbiztondo has been a microwave and a spark plug off the bench. He averaged 6.7 points during that frame, shooting 33 percent from distance — earning him the moniker Fireball.

A one-time PBA Champion, he is set to add experience to the 11-5 Slingers as the playoff race enters its final stretch. He joins Filipino-American guard Rolando Gardner as the team’s ASEAN Heritage Imports.
