No rest for the driven
Jovelyn Gonzaga is truly living up to her moniker – Bionic Ilongga.
Less than a day after she connived with Rachel Daquis to give Cignal a lease on life against defending champions Petron, the 5-foot-7 opposite spiker did the heavy lifting yet again.
But this time around, it was for PacificTown–Army.
“Gusto kong mag-give back sa coaches [Kungfu Reyes and Edgar Barroga] na nag-iintindi sa akin, kasi siya [Reyes], grabe ‘yung pagintindi niya sa akin. Hindi niya ako binubugbog sa training,” Gonzaga confessed while sitting beside Reyes in the post-game presser.
“Ito naman yung way ko paano ako makabalik ng tiwala.”
The lefty out of Central Philippine University posted an awe-inspiring triple-double performance.
She had a game-high 24 points laced with 26 excellent digs and 16 excellent receptions to power her Lady Troopers’ come-from-behind victory against Choco Mucho.
As of now, Gonzaga is the only active player simultaneously playing in both the PSL and PVL. In fact, she’ll be playing her third straight game tomorrow with Cignal in a do-or-die bout against Petron.
Despite the fatigue that entails her double-duty, she happily brushes it all aside for the sake of her beloved squads.
“Pagod na pagod pero wala, high morale ako kasi puro panalo. ‘Yun na lang ang attitude. High morale talaga akong wala akong iniisip na ibang bagay,” she confided. “Masarap sa pakiramdam.
“Worth it!”
The past couple of months have been unforgettable for Gonzaga.
Following an injury that derailed her for years, she’s finally playing to her heart’s content. For this, she’s beyond grateful.
“Thank you sa tiwala kahit minsan hindi ko nabibigay yung hundred-percent ko.”
