Pia Ildefonso will not be part of Ateneo’s lineup for UAAP Season 85.
But it’s not because she was cut from the team. It’s because she is fighting a greater cause.
The 5-foot-9 sophomore announced on social media that she made the tough decision to skip out her sophomore campaign in indoor volleyball early Saturday.
“God knows how much love I have for this bunch. Always thankful and forever grateful for this team, all the opportunities, and blessings,” her post read.
“Definitely the toughest decision I’ve made. I’m choosing to face, fight, and grow through life’s battles outside the sport I love most.”
Ildefonso did not delve into why she made this decision.
Ildefonso, a product of Nazareth School of National University, made her Blue Eagles debut during UAAP Season 84 — a campaign that saw them finish third.
The 20-year-old daughter of Danny Ildefonso went on to be a vital part of Ateneo’s campaigns in Shakey’s Super League and V-League.
She also played for Ateneo during the UAAP Season 85 Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament.
Despite not being with the team on the court, Ildefonso will continue to support the team.
“Will always be rooting for you guys. Can’t wait to see you guys play your hearts out this season!” she said.
“Labchu ol!”
