Converge is poised to receive yet another significant boost towards achieving its growth aspirations.
Later this week, the FiberXers will be working out with Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy as part of their preseason training.
The three-time NBA champion mentor is currently in town to conduct basketball clinics for coaches, varsity teams, and the young PBA ball club.
“He’s going to work out with the team,” said coach Aldin Ayo.
Handy was present when Converge faced TNT in the On Tour on Wednesday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, ultimately securing their second consecutive win with a 109-94 decision.
The 51-year-old player development coach also received a warm welcome from league commissioner Willie Marcial during his brief visit to the PBA.
Ayo expressed enthusiasm about their upcoming sessions with Handy, who was brought to Manila by one of the team’s major backers, Frank Lao.
In addition to Handy, the FiberXers have been benefiting from lessons taught by Slovenian coach Zoran Martic since the first week of June.
“Of course, we’re excited,” said Ayo.
“We have two foreign coaches right now who’s going to help us with our preseason training.”
