The podium remains uncharted territory for the Philippine National Bowling team in the 30th Southeast Asian Games, Thursday afternoon.
Coming up empty-handed on the first two days, the Philippines delegates crashed out of top three once again, finishing fifth and seventh in the SEA Games bowling mixed doubles event at the Coronado Lanes in Starmall EDSA.
The tandem of Kenneth Chua and Alexis Sy landed the best position among the Filipino keglers with a total score of 2526. Chua struck 1255 pinfalls in the six-game series, while Sy managed to knock down 1271.
“It was tough for me… Nagkakaroon ng bad shots and tsaka split. So ‘yun, naging tough siya,” Chua said.
Indonesia’s Sharon Limansantoso and Hardy Rachmadian produced a total of 2557 pinfalls to capture gold. Singapore’s Cheah Ray Han and New Fui Hen snagged silver with a total of 2542, while their fellow Singaporean contingent Daphne Tan and Basil Dill Ng took home bronze with 2540.
Meanwhile, the Philippine duo of Bea Hernandez and Merwin Tan settled for seventh place out of 16 two-man teams. Hernandez churned out 1252 pinfalls, as Tan chimed in 1207 for a total of 2459 points.
Despite placing outside the podium, Hernandez chooses to remain positive.
“For me, I think it’s been a good day. We had good breaks, we also had bad breaks. But overall I think it was good,” she said.
