CLARK, PAMPANGA — The Philippine Dancesport Team made sure to welcome its sport back to its home with a bang.
The duo of Sean Aranar and Leonila Nualla, and the couple of Mark Jayson Gayon and Mary Joy Renigen copped five of the six available golds during the morning session of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, Sunday at the Royce Hotel and Casino.
Aranar and Nualla, who have been partners in dance for the last six years, topped the Open Standard, Standard Tango, and Viennese Waltz categories.
“Sobrang nakakapagod pero sobrang nakakaproud dahil one year namin pinaghandaan ito. Pero kalahating araw na tapos na. Nabawasan kami ng malaking pasagid kaya sobrang saya,” said Nualla.
“Lahat ng victory namin na ito para kay Lord at ang medal na ito ay para sa bayan,” added Aranar.
Real-life partners Gayon and Renigen later won in the standard foxtrot and waltz events. They later placed silver in the quickstep.
“First time namin mag-compete in this level,” admitted Gayon, who has been sweethearts with Renigen since their days in University of Makati.
“It’s a balance of everything. It makes it easier because the feelings will be there. This medal makes all the hardships worth it,” said Renigen.
Vietnam topped the quickstep category.
