United City maintained its title defense with a 1-0 win over Maharlika Manila in the 2022-2023 Philippines Football League, Saturday evening, at the PFF National Training Center in Cavite.
The defending champions broke the deadlock in fortuitous circumstances in the 40th minute.
Maharlika Manila tried to play the ball out from the back, only to allow Argentinian midfielder Ricardo Sendra to intercept it in midfield.
Sendra then passed it towards Hikaru Minegishi, who then performed a fine finish to score the game’s only goal.
The result allows Frank Muescan’s men to maintain their title push in third place with 16 points behind five wins and one draw.
On the other hand, Maharlika remains in eighth place with zero points on the back of eight straight defeats.
