PFL: Daizo Horikoshi thrills, lifts Kaya to romp of Cebu

Daizo Horikoshi put on a show as Kaya-Iloilo sealed a 3-0 victory over Dynamic Herb Cebu in the 2022-2023 Philippines Football League, Sunday evening, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

After a goalless first half, the 25-year-old Japanese import provided an assist for Jarvey Gayoso, who broke the deadlock from close range in the 54th minute.

It was the former UAAP standout’s first goal for Kaya in domestic action.

Horikoshi then turned goalscorer late in the game to seal the win for coach Yu Hoshide’s men.

He tapped in Eric Ben Giganto’s low cross to give Kaya-Iloilo a two-goal cushion in the 86th minute and scored a header in the 90+1 minute to seal his brace.

I know even in (the) Copa (Paulino Alcantara) it was very hard against Cebu. They’re a very physical side. My players really did well,” said Hoshide.

Kaya increases its tally in the standings to six points after two straight wins while Dynamic Herb Cebu fails to take a point in its first game this season.

Both teams will return to action next Sunday at Rizal Memorial. Kaya goes up against Mendiola 1991 at 4:00 PM while Dynamic Herb Cebu takes on defending champions United City afterwards at 7:00 PM.
