Petron holds off Soltones, PLDT to sweep elimination round

Petron thwarted the late surge of Grethcel Soltones and the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters, taking a four-set, 25-18, 25-19, 26-28, 25-19, decision, Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The league-leading Blaze Spikers remain unscathed to cap their dominant run in the 2019 PSL Invitationals preliminaries with a 6-0 card. But in order to stay unbeaten, they had to recover from a meltdown of epic proportions in the third set, where they wasted seven match points.

Sisi Rondina scintillated anew, pouring in 19 points and 22 excellent digs. Ces Molina lagged a point behind with 18 markers built on 14 attacks and three kill blocks.

The Blaze Spikers will prepare for a knockout semifinals affair with the Foton Tornadoes Blue Energy on Tuesday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
