Jason Perkins already has one thing in mind as Phoenix Super LPG enters its PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series versus Magnolia.
While he and the Fuel Masters have yet to turn their full attention to the upcoming battle ahead since they focused firstly on Meralco, the lefty bruiser is looking forward to his face-off with good pal Calvin Abueva.
“I’m looking forward to playing Calvin,” he said after their 88-84 win over the Bolts in the do-or-die quarterfinals, Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Perkins, ever humorous, said that he’s planning to get some payback on the ‘Beast’ with what happened during their last meeting.
“Calvin was making fun of me last game so I’m definitely gonna hit him one time,” he joked. “That’s all I know for sure right now.”
Turning serious, Perkins is looking forward to the matchup against someone whom he shared glory with during their time together in Phoenix.
Both players were part of the Fuel Masters squads that reached the semis, first in the 2018 Philippine Cup and then in the 2020 bubble.
They’ll be on opposing sides this time, though, which should be an interesting clash as it would feature two of the league’s hard-nosed forwards.
And in the upcoming series starting Wednesday, it’s Abueva with the edge.
Magnolia beat Phoenix, 107-92, in the eliminations last November 12.
“Calvin’s a friend of mine,” offered the 31-year-old of the two-time BPC awardee. “I look forward to playing Calvin.”
