Records, as they say, are meant to be broken.
The PBA has done exactly that as 18,251 fans trooped to the SMART Araneta Coliseum for Game Five of the Governors’ Cup Finals, Sunday night.
Breaking the mark of gate attendances in the midst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has quite become a thing for the league this week.
Game Four of the best-of-seven title bout between Barangay Ginebra and Meralco, held also at the Big Dome last Wednesday, drew 17,298.
There, the Gin Kings took a 95-84 win to tie the series at 2-2.
That 17,000-plus was easily the biggest audience drawn by any local sports league, whether pro or amateur, in the time of the ongoing health crisis.
Moreover, it happened just four days after welcoming a crowd of 16,104 for Game Three exactly a week ago at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Happy Easter, indeed, for the league.
