Defending champion Pampanga lorded over Quezon by a whopping 50 points to clinch the top seed, 122-72, in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga on Saturday night.
Encho Serrano’s 18 points led the seven Delta in double figures. He also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists.
Backstopping him were Jeffrey Santos and Daryl Pascual off the bench with 17 and 16 points, respectively, with the latter also getting 10 rebounds.
The Delta’s efforts were one and the same in the first three periods, putting up more than 30 points in all three. They then established an insurmountable 53-point advantage entering fourth, 103-50.
A booming trey to start the final frame put Pampanga ahead by 56, 106-50. That was the largest lead of the match en route to an 8-1 win-loss record.
Joining the double-digits party for the Delta was Hernandez with 15 points and five assists. CJ Gania, meanwhile, had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Rounding out the double-figure scorers for Pampanga were Jayson David and Mark Dyke with 11 and 10.
Jervin Deduyo led Quezon with 15 points and five rebounds. On the other hand, Topeng Lagrama saw himself held to 10 points and forced to commit six turnovers.
The Barons slid to 5-3, tied with Taguig for fifth and sixth spots. A win in at least one of their two games left will clinch a spot for them in the post-season.
And that opportunity could not come any quicker with a game against Parañaque tomorrow at 4 pm.
