Prior to the opening of the 2019-20 MPBL Lakan Cup, MPBL league owner Manny Pacquiao vowed to crack down on game-fixing in his league.
Monday evening, he was able to identify one of the teams that might be involved in the illicit activity.
Pacquiao suspended the SOCCSKARGEN Marlins for alleged game-fixing and other related scheming activities.
The team coached by Bong Melocoton will be put under investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation.
After a tumultuous start involving its sponsor, SOCCSKARGEN was able to join the league a month after the 2019-20 Lakan Cup began.
However, the Marlins have yet to win in 18 games. Moreover, they have lost all their games by an average margin of 18.6 points per contest.
Some of the players of SOCCSKARGEN include ex-pros Abraham Santos and Norman Gonzales; and Exe Biteng, RJ Diwa, Joshua Alcober, Julio Magbanua, Jerome Juanico, and Janus Lozada. Their homegrown players are Excell Nocos, Hamsar Macantal, and Spencer Eman.
With this, Pacquiao and his team will take over the franchise until things will be resolved.
