ONE Championship may have beefed up its heavyweight division with some key acquisitions as of late, but the promotion won’t stop there.
Keen on unearthing new talent for the division, The Home Of Martial Arts announced its partnership with U.S. mixed martial arts organization Ringside United Fighting (RUF Nation) for the “Road To ONE” heavyweight tournament that kicks off this March 13 at RUF 39.
The spectacle will feature 16 heavyweights from the region. The winner of the tournament gets a US$100,000+ contract to compete in The Home Of Martial Arts.
The tournament winner will also join the likes of ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera; and the division’s major players in “Singh” Arjan Bhullar, Amir Aliakbari, and Anatoly “Spartak” Malykhin among others.
“One of our most important goals at ONE Championship has been to give athletes the biggest global platform to showcase their skills,” said ONE Championship Vice President Rich Franklin.
“We’re more than excited for this tournament to commence, and to discover the world’s next heavyweight superstar.”
But the partnership won’t end there.
The heavyweight tournament is just the beginning of ONE’s blossoming relationship with RUF Nation. The two organizations have also revealed plans to hold tournaments in other weight classes sometime in 2021.
The winner gets the same lucrative contract to perform in The Home Of Martial Arts.
“I’m ecstatic for the opportunity ONE Championship has given us at RUF Nation to partner on a ‘Road To ONE’ tournament,” said President of RUF Nation Dr. Joel Lopez.
“RUF is poised with the ideal stage for recruitment, and the response from applicants has been overwhelming so far. I believe this tournament will produce some of the best undiscovered talent in the U.S. to add to ONE’s roster.”
