Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera just had his best season so far after stepping up and leading ECHO to a silver medal finish in the recently-concluded MPL Philippines Season 10 grand finals.
After a stellar regular season performance that saw him steer the team to the second seed, Yawi stepped it up a notch in the playoffs, especially in the lower bracket finals where he bagged three Most Valuable Player awards in ECHO’s 3-1 win that dethroned RSG PH.
In the finals, Blacklist International limited Yawi’s effectiveness by constantly taking out Chou, Atlas, and Grock. These three heroes, arguably his best three picks for this season, never saw the light of day except for Grock in Games One and Two which forced him to use pocket picks such as Valir, Kadita, Jawhead, and Khufra.
Blacklist International, despite trailing 1-2 early in the series, definitely capitalized on the situation and bagged its third title in four seasons after shutting down ECHO, 4-2, in the finale at the Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan.
Nevertheless, the loss cannot shadow the fact that Yawi had a tremendous season overall.
And his performance definitely did not go unnoticed as Blacklist International skipper and reigning Most Valuable Player Johnmar “OhMyV33NUS” Villaluna only had nothing but good words for her counterpart.
“Actually grabe si Yawi, sobrang napabilib niya ako,” OhMyV33NUS said during the post-game press conference.
OhMyV33NUS said that Yawi’s Season 10 showing is proof that he’s a world-class roamer. She, later on, revealed that the ECHO roamer is one of the players that she’s looking forward to teaming up with in the future.
“For sure hindi lang ako pati yung mga nanonood feeling ko sobrang napatunayan ni Yawi na isa talaga siyang world-class or quality talaga na roamer. Napakita naman niya ‘yon sa RSG, kanina napakita rin naman niya ‘yon,” said OhMyV33NUS, who also revealed that she swapped jerseys with Yawi after the series.
“And actually isa din si Yawi na gusto kong ma-experience maging kampi.”
