The Philippines continues its solid showing in the 19th ASEAN University Games volleyball tournament. The Filipinos – represented by reigning UAAP Men’s champions National University Bulldogs – topped Indonesia, 25-14, 25-23, 25-13, to make it to the gold medal round Thursday in Naypyitaw, Myanmar.
Except for a close second set, the Philippines was dominant in the semifinals match. The team extends its undefeated run to three games and assures itself of a podium finish.
The Filipinos surpassed their bronze medal achievement in the biennial meet for the student-athletes in the region from two years ago in Singapore.
Up next for the Philippines is a rematch with defending champion Thailand, which fashioned out a 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Myanmar in the other semis duel, on Friday.
The Bulldogs pulled off a shocking 30-28, 25-23, 25-19 win over the Thais, in last Sunday’s opener.
Like the Philippines, Thailand is also 3-0 in the tournament.
