The rivalry between Faith Nisperos and Eya Laure will add another chapter to its book.
Nisperos’ Ateneo has just earned the fourth seed after eliminating Adamson University in straight sets. Now, it will clash with Laure’s University of Santo Tomas in the second phase of the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball stepladder.
The match-up of the two powerful spikers goes way back in the juniors’ division between the National University-Nazareth School of the now Atenean Nisperos and UST High School.
And with countless battles in the elimination rounds and the brightest of stages in the playoffs, the knockout match on Tuesday is a sight to look forward to.
However, Nisperos isn’t really thinking about her rivalry with Laure.
The Ateneo leader is all eyes on the Golden Tigresses as a whole, not just Laure.
“Going into the next game, we have to prepare as a team so we will prepare for the team,” said Nisperos.
“Of course, we have to consider Eya because she’s one of the best scorers. But as I said, we have to prepare for the team.”
For Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro, UST will always be a big challenge to surpass.
In the elimination round, the two squads split their matches.
The Golden Tigresses took the first round, 25-19, 25-21, 29-31, 33-31. Meanwhile, the Blue Eagles answered in the second round with a sweep, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20.
“UST is a great team. Lagi naming sinasabi, great teams will just push us forward. They’re an intact team, they have a deep bench, and well-coached.”
