Lady Stags drub Lady Pirates for solo second

The San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags zoomed to second place after dispatching the Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates, 25-23, 25-6, 25-14, Sunday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

It was the Recto-based squad’s fourth consecutive victory as they head into the crucial last two matches, but despite the win, head coach Roger Gorayeb is still looking for consistency.

“Yung last two games, maganda nilalaro namin,” the decorated mentor said. “Itong [game na ‘to], ang bagal na naman ng umpisa nila. Dami naming errors.”

Nonetheless, the Ladu Stags leaned on their experience to pull away past Lyceum in the end.

San Sebastian pummeled the opposition with 33 attacks and 18 aces. Outside hitter Nikka Dalisay paced the offense with 12 of those 33 spikes, while middle blocker Julie Tobacco produced eight of those serves.

Elaine Juanillo led the Pirates with eight points.

The 5-2 Stags will face the San Beda College (6-1) in another crucial tussle on Tuesday, January 30. The Lady Pirates (1-6) will take on the Emilio Aguinaldo College (1-5) on Wednesday, January 31.
